Over and over again, Reeves reminds us of the beauty of our triune God who is worthy of our delight. I first read this book many years ago, and it encouraged my faith and gave me a fresh perspective on the God we serve. And it is through the triune goodness of God that we might live the Christian life, as we are hidden in Christ, set free from the power of sin and empowered by the Spirit to be doers of the Word.īroadening our understanding of this central truth about the God we serve is the focus of a book I recommend constantly to anyone who will listen: Delighting in the Trinity by Michael Reeves. It’s because God is Trinity that we can be saved as the Father plans salvation, the Son secures it, and the Spirit seals it. It’s because of this truth that we may love because God is love in His perfect unity and triune goodness. God as Trinity is certainly bigger than our minds can conceive and more wonderful than we could ever hope, and yet, He has given us His Word so that we might know Him.

What do I do if I’m starving for inspiration?Īfter 4 long, intricate novels, I now know that I am pushing creativity too hard, that I have to step back and let it unfold at its own pace, and that pace doesn't pick up if I worry. I thought one of two women would be the main character, but lo and behold, it was Louis XIV himself because of particular issues he faced in 1661, the time period I chose to write from, and because of the truly "princely" behavior he displayed. How did these women feel about that, I always wondered, because some of them were able to become friends again-so that is the seed of Before Versailles. The personal relationships of Louis XIV always intrigued me, that he fell in love with his sister-in-law, then her maid of honor, then that maid of honor's friend, then that friend's friend.not all at once, but over the course of 20 years. Books 2 and 3 could have been better if they’d featured Blood’s love interest, Arabella. Instead we get much more solo adventures of Peter Blood and how he cleverly navigates the upper hand in various situations such as freeing a slave, seeking revenge, or helping damsels out of their distresses. The exploits are still witty and exciting, but I could have done with more sword fighting, battle scenes, and tales of Blood’s comrades. However, I was a little disappointed in this one. As it was with #2 in the series, the short story adventures of #3 take place within the time frame of #1. My Book Review: My enjoyable experiences with the first two Captain Blood books ( Captain Blood Captain Blood Returns) led me to the third and final installment of the trilogy by Rafael Sabatini. Plot Summary: The adventures of Captain Blood-gentleman doctor, turned rebel– continue to exasperate fellow pirates and the Spanish Main! After all, Vader being lied to by his own agents might be the only plausible explanation for the plot hole. My guess is that Reva will likely uncover the secret, and then keep it to herself, after being persuaded to do the right thing by Obi-Wan. The series will feature Moses Ingram as Reva, a former Jedi, now of the Empire’s Inquisitors, who seems determined to track down Obi-Wan, and seems to share a personal history with him. Hence, the Obi-Wan series is in the unenviable position of explaining why its titular hero is such a sloppy outlaw, and why Vader never figured out his poorly concealed secret. Even Boba Fett’s greatest ambition was to rule the “backwater” planet. Lastly, it is believed that Tatooine is such a backwater planet, floating in the middle of nowhere, that Vader’s forces wouldn’t even bother to look there.īut Disney’s determination to invoke franchise nostalgia, and thus, center Tatooine as the most important place in the galaxy, has completely killed the concept of Tatooine as a metaphorical small town, where nothing ever happens almost every single Star Wars spin-off has found reason to visit the place. It’s also speculated that Darth Vader wouldn’t want to visit Tatooine again, for fear of sparking painful memories of his mother’s death, or perhaps, even reawakening the tiny sliver of humanity that still resides within him. |
